Ratha Yatra

Rainy Days

Attendance was down at this year’s Durban Ratha Yatra because of heavy rain. Nevertheless, thousands braved the wet weather to enjoy 4 days of transcendental festivities. A high point was when national television came and interviewed us. The interviewer, a young lady who dressed in a sari for the occasion, chanted and danced with us [...]

27 Years

Thousands of people turned up for Durban’s 27th Ratha Yatra festival along the beachfront yesterday. The 5-hour parade captured the attention of both locals and tourists as 3 large chariots rumbled through the streets. The festival continues for 3 more days with attractions in an assortment of tents, large and small, not far from the [...]

Like A Lion

On our last day in Russia we participated in Ratha Yatra in Krasnodar. Bada Haridas prabhu, who led kirtan most of the way, was roaring like a lion as he sang the holy names and while dancing in ecstasy gave delight to all the devotees present.

A Most Spectacular Event

Yesterday Russian devotees held their annual Ratha Yatra festival in Moscow. Due to the present political climate in the country, city authorities restricted the event to a small area inside a park. But that did not deter 700 hundred devotees from participating. Afterwards a public program was held in a large auditorium for the public. [...]

The 5th Note

One of the highlights of the Festival of Chariots in Durban last weekend was BB Govinda Maharaja singing the holy names accompanied by the famous 65-piece KZN Philharmonic Orchestra. He was backed up by a chorus of Bada Haridas, Jayadeva das and the local 12 member Kwamashu choir. At the end of the 90 minute [...]

Rainbow Splash

South Africa is known as the Rainbow Nation due to it’s diverse ethnic and religious cultures. Yesterday at our Festival of Chariots we held a Rainbow Splash where people threw colors into the air – and on each other – celebrating the theme of our event: ‘Culturally Many, Spiritually One.’ With a DJ on stage [...]

Receiving The Dignitaries

Yesterday we received the State Governor of Natal and the Mayor of Durban at our Festival of Chariots. Both spoke highly of the event and our movement to an audience of 4,000 people in the main tent.

Day Of Reckoning

A full year of preparations paid off in our best Ratha Yatra festival in 25 years. The first of four days of celebrations kicked off with a super chariot parade with amazing kirtans, brass bands, majorettes, Scottish bagpipes, clowns, stiltwalkers and Zulu warrior dancers. The holy names resounded throughout the beach area and people of [...]

Prasadam for 200,000

Cooking began at midnight in an open field over wood fires for the first day of our 4-day Festival of Chariots here in Durban, South Africa. We plan to distribute over 200,000 free plates. Let the mercy flow!

A Special Treat

Over the coming weekend at Durban’s Festival of Chariots guests will enjoy a special kirtan performance of BB Govinda Maharaja accompanied up by the famous KZN Philharmonic Orchestra. Maharaja has been rehearsing with the 65-piece orchestra over the past week. The well known Kwamashu Choir will act as backup vocals, along with Bada Haridas and [...]
